League of Entertainment or League of Passion

I was again sitting idle after food. That’s what I do these days. Once IPL matches finishes at 9, I eat my food and then have nothing else to do other than watch some useless shit in TV. So I thought, let me write something in my blog. It’s been a while anyways. So I started writing this. But I did not know what to write about. After some thinking, the thing that came to my mind easiest was IPL. I know you will laugh at me – oh, sports again Aakash!!. But hang on, I have not written about sports in my blog so far. Don’t worry , I am gonna write what’s the latest score or how IPL works or what’s happenings in South Africa. As my title suggests, it’s a comparison between IPL and BPL! Well in a way there is no comparison actually. But just to see if IPL is heading towards BPL. Now don’t tell me you don’t know BPL!!! There is no doubt that IPL – the so called Brain Child of Mr. Lalit Modi, is a plain copy of BPL. I am not criticizing or laughing at him. He has indeed done a commendable job so far. So much of entertainment. In fact any sports lover should be thankful to him. BPL was there since years and years, not everyone could do or even think about what he has done. So well done! But is it really heading in same direction – State wise rivalry, millions of dollors, entertainment. Did I miss something here? Yes of course, new opportunity for young Indians. This is something that is not there in BPL, So well done Lalit! Did I miss something else here? I think I am done.

Now, IPL still has a long way to go yet. I know it’s a fundamental statement. I also know that its only 2nd year of IPL. That’s not my objective. My objective is actually not to compare, but to fantasize, but to fathom. To imagine if a Delhi Daredevil Fan will fight with a Mumbai Indian fan? Will a group of Royal Challengers throw beer bottles at Hyderabad Charges? I am in no way saying that these are amazing things. But I am talking about PASSION here! Real hardcore PASSION!

Other day, I went to see Chelsea Vs Barca (Champions League Semifinal) in a club. Chelsea as you know lost in last minute. U would laugh at me, I was almost in tears for 2 minutes. That day, I could understand why people die for a foot ball game in Europe. Why when there is a Man U vs Arsenal, people – men and women, leave everything else and get hooked to TV. I can keep on writing, but sumamrizing above – they are right on TV when they say – Club foot ball is not just sports and entertainment, its RELIGION!

Will IPL be a religion as well? Will people cry when Chennai Super looses? Will a hardcore drunken fan of the club give a punch to someone not even watching match, just because he is frustrated as his team just lost. The question in short here is, will IPL remain entertainment or it will become a question of EGO of a fan? Will each IPL will have its own culture, leave alone an anthem?

I don’t know what all from above a fan would like to have from BPL and what all should never be there. Because one more thing which it can do, if it goes BPL or Champions league way, people will play clubs but not for nation. Although even in 2009, someone named Bravo, was available for Mumbai Indians but not for West Indies!

One thing is per sure, life does move on but for an IPL Team fan, its still be much easier than a Football club fan.

Lemme know your thoughts please. I will see you soon. Btw, waiting for 27th May as well as 24th. See you there. Take care till then.

Ey u sport freak ...u dint write anything abt Election Game....U missed that part to make your May Blog Done.....

An extremely loyal fan joke text

There was a Packers fan with a really crappy seat at Lambeau. Looking with his binoculars, he spotted an empty seat on the 50-yard line. Thinking to himself "what a waste" he made his way down to the empty seat.

When he arrived at the seat, he asked the man sitting next to it, "Is this seat taken?" The man replied, "This was my wife's seat. She passed away. She was a big Packers fan." The other man replied,"I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. May I ask why you didn't give the ticket to a friend or a relative?"

The man replied, "They're all at the funeral."

Aakash...as a passionate supporter of EPL, i would say those comments from you are very much acceptable. IPL is purely an entertainment show. As a sports lover, you wouldnt want to see cheer girls in bikini who has no idea on what is going on in the ground..same as the owners.Yes, for the players it is rather interesting for the money they get and the bonus (""tight"" hugs n kisses from Priety n Shilpa). I would vote for Mallika Sherawat to get a stake in Deccan chargers.. as they need a bollywood presence.. + the incentives.

Finally, IPL has representation only from few cities of India...so it doesnt impress the huge mass of India who arent involved. I guess Modi and BCCI wanted to make quick money and kick started with this funny league. There's no relegation battle etc as in EPL or other football leagues which makes the leagues passionate. So there's no point comparing the both. They say Cricket is a religion but IPL is not the answer.

On your comments on Champions league...as a passionate supporter of Chelsea I felt we were robbed at the Bridge. I guess it will be a good topic for you comment on.

Blue is the Color""
